Harmanpreet Kaur, full name Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar is a professional cricketer from Moga, Punjab and plays for the Indian senior women’s cricket team. Born on March 8th 1989, Harmanpreet plays for India as an all-rounder, right-arm batter with right-arm off-break bowling.
Her batting style is quite similar to our legendary opening batsman of India, Virender Sehwag. Her concept of batting is very straightforward, “see the ball, hit the ball”. Kaur is the only women cricketer worldwide to score a century in a T20I match. She is also a batting all-rounder, just like Sehwag as per India women’s cricket live score:
Kaur’s Background
Kaur is the daughter of Harmandar Singh Bhullar, her father, who was also a basketball and volleyball player. Since childhood, she has had a passion for sports, so from her schooling days at Gian Jyoti School Academy, she started training under the coach Kamaldessh Singh Sodhi.
Her Debut
Just at 20, Kaur got her chance to play the first ODI match of her career against earth rival Pakistan in 2009. In her first, she got the opportunity of bowling four overs, where he gave out only ten runs.
After three months in the same year, 2009, she made her T20I debut against England in the Women’s T20 World Cup. But unfortunately, she got out of just scoring eight runs from seven deliveries that she faced.
After five years after her T20 and ODI debut, in 2014, she got the chance to play her first test match for India on August 13th against the England team. But her first test could not prove her potential in this format.
Marking Her Presence
Harmanpreet is known for her destructive batting in any situation, and this is proven in a T20 match against the England team in 2010 in Mumbai, where she played a powerful knock of 33 runs. Both cricket enthusiasts and critics appreciate her ability to hit long sixes regularly.
Kaur’s batting ability is quite lucrative and compelling, and due to her sheer talent made her the Indian team captain for the 2012 Women’s Asia Cup. She was replaced with Mithali Raj, who unfortunately missed that series due to her injury.
The first match of the Asia Cup under Kaur’s captaincy was memorable as the Indian team successfully defended a small score of only 81 runs against the Pakistan women’s team.
Besides the T20 format, Kaur also captained the Indian team in the ODI format. Her first ODI match as a captain was against the Bangladesh team on the home ground. Her first ODI series as a captain went exceptionally well as she scored the second century of her career with one half-century at an extraordinary average of 97.50. Against Bangladesh, she also took two wickets with her bowling prowess.
In November 2014, the world witnessed her bowling prowess against the South African women’s team in a test match. In that test, she took nine wickets in total and helped India to win the game by an innings.
Kaur was the leading player behind the success of winning a T20 series against the Australians. In the series decider match, Harmanpreet’s quick knock of 46 runs from 31 deliveries helped India to chase down the most number of runs that had been scored in any T20I game.
Harmanpreet is a very classy player, and her great form continues in the 2016 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where she showed her all-round prowess to every cricket fan around the globe. She scored 89 runs and seven wickets in that World Cup in four matches.
Harmanprett is quite a good player in the shortest format of the game, and this is proved by her inclusion in the ICC Women’s T20I team of 2017 due to her several match-winning performances for team India.
In October 2018, she regained her captaincy for team India in the T20 World Cup in West Indies. At that time, she was in the limelight because of the continuous match-winning performances she had provided for some years. In the 2018 T20 World Cup, she knocked 103 runs from 51 deliveries against the New Zealand team and became the first women player to score a century in a T20I match.
Harmanpreet’s Club Career
Harmanpreet was the first player in the Indian team who stated the concept of playing club crickets. She became the first player when an overseas club signed her for a T20 league. Her first club where she played was Sydney Thunders in Australia’s WBBL for the 2016-17 season.
In the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup’s semi-final match, Harmanpreet knocked out 171 runs from 115 deliveries and became the world’s second highest-ever scorer in women’s ODI format.
To date, Harmanpreet holds the record of scoring the highest number of runs in a single ODI match for the Indian team as a women’s batter in the cricket World Cup tournaments.
The batting ability of Harmanpreet is quite versatile, especially in limited over formats. This statement is proved by the fact that she is the second Indian women batter in the top 10 lists of best ODI batters in the whole world.
To date, Harmanpreet has played 121 ODI matches for India and scored 3101 runs at a decent average of 36.05 with 16 half-centuries and four centuries.
In the T20I format, she played 127 matches and scored 2463 runs with seven half-centuries and one century. To date, her highest score in T20Is is 103 runs.
There is nothing much to say about Harmanpreet’s test career as she played only three matches and scored only 38 runs with an abysmal average of just 7.60. 17 is the highest score she made to date in test format.
Harmanpreet Kaur is a very talented batting all-rounder from team India. She is now only 33 years old, and there is much magic still left in her which every cricket fans want to witness in her upcoming matches in the blue jersey. We are sure she will deliver some incredible magic in the forthcoming years with bat and ball in hand.
